D4C – “Unite”
Released: 2011
Reviewed by: Joshua Dwight
Rating: 6.13 (Out of 10)

Rating: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆

A rapper from “Down Under” better known as D4C (Disciple 4 Christ) puts an Australian touch on Christian Hip-Hop bringing a positive message of peace, hope, and love with the release of this project: “Unite”.

Unite is a clear presentation of “The Gospel” and D4C shows how his boast is in the Gospel. It might not be the best album, or album of the year, but it definitely reflects the heart of D4C and paints a picture of who he is, who he wants to be, and his love for God. I was surprised when I found out that all the profits from the album were being given to Diamond Pregnancy Support for awareness and to help women going through pregnancy and thoughts of abortion.

The features on this album are: Sevin, Mark Ant, Genesiz, Tim Turner, Purified, KamBINO, Disciple, Prolifik, R-Swift, Praze, thagoodshepherd, Silaz, Zion, Limerick, and Anneleise Meywes.

Knowing Sevin, KamBINO, and R-Swift were on the album definitely sparked my interest, but when I heard Zion tearing it up on the song “Repent” I had to say that this song probably was one of the ones that stick out the most on this project.

Highlights of the album are: Forgiven, Shout, Beautiful, and Repent.

This album has good features. Some of the production is pretty crazy sounding (as in good). The message, the content, the heart behind the project, and the impact are all contributing factors to making it a decent album. The mix is not the best, but it’s not the worst either, in fact I’ve heard worse mixes from “better” artists.

When compared to most commercial albums this album doesn’t quite meet par, but it meets enough to have an impact, attract fans, and turn some heads. It seems always a trend that you hear an artist release an album, and then a year later you hear their music on a whole new level of superiority.

For a first solo album, D4C is off to a good start, as he learns more and gets wittier with his lyricism. I’m positive he will learn some new techniques and push the envelope in future releases. He has the zeal, motivation, capability and positivity to continue making music and surpass the music he creates in present time and past time.

Wow. After reading your review and past reviews, I always notice the lower ratings and decide to take a listen myself and come up with my own decision. It seems to be a normal thing on here… giving low scores to those who are less known. But Sometimes the scores are right, but on this release… I’m afraid your review is off. After reading the review I decided to get myself a copy on iTunes and see for myself… and boy was I impressed. This has been on repeat on my iPod and car stereo for 3 weeks. You’re right in some aspects with your review, but the scoring is just not on par with how good the album is. A 6.13 out of 10 is crazy low for this release.

After a bit of research about D4C on websites, Facebook and YouTube, I realised what an impact his music and that of his ministry he’s a part of is doing in Australia. The Commission is one of a few that are doing big things in that little country. And not just on the ministry side of things with visiting schools and prisons, etc… but on the music side too. And also noticed D4C has a lot to do with the music side of things with Christian Rap in Australia, as he produces and executively produces albums aswell as makes beats, mixes and masters music too. And the fact he gets respect from well known artist such as R-Swift, KamBINO, Sevin & Zion, is just a testament to this amazing artists heart for the Gospel and uplifting people.

Now as you said… Unite is a clear presentation of “The Gospel” and that’s the exact feeling I thought when I heard this… Amazing music and production… really a great range of styles all rolled into one amazing album. I also read somewhere that D4C had created 80+ songs for this particular album… so imagine the process of cutting it down to an albums worth of songs. With that being said, I think he has done an amazing job.

Now you said the mix is not the best, but I didn’t notice too much wrong with it. I’ve heard a lot worse from more well known artists, plus from videos I saw… D4C’s studio is just in his bedroom with a Microphone and computer, so I’m very very very impressed with the quality that is shown on this album with what was used to do it.

The features are amazing with having Sevin, Mark Ant, KamBINO, R-Swift, Zion all from USA, but then all the other artists from Australia in Genesiz, Grasp, Tim Turner, Prolifik, Silaz, Anneleise Meywes, Desciple, Praze, Limerick and so forth.

Now as for songs, “Repent” is definitely a stand out as you said. Zion’s raw energy and hook is whats sets the song off from the start. I also love D4C’s bridge towards the end of the song. Amazing song with 2 artists from totally different sides of the world.

Highlight for the album for myself are: Beat Down, Untitled, Fly Tonight, Forgiven, Shout, Big Thingz, I Don’t Deserve It, Beautiful, Defiant, Repent & In You.

In fact… there is a lot of great songs on this album. I particularly enjoyed “Summer Dayz” also. It’s actually one of the most cruisey songs I’ve heard in a long while, and when I found a remix of it on iTunes with a well known New Zealand rapper “Young Sid”, I had to get that too.

But a clear stand out track for me is “Beautiful”… this track isn’t your typical Hip Hop song… This is something out of the ordinary, but it works for me. Not sure if it’s D4C singing the hook or what, but this song and the lyrics it speak about just hit me hard. It’s a clear understanding of who D4C is and his stance as a Christian artist. A definite one to listen to.

Another that blew me away was “Shout”… This track was a serious jaw dropper and amazed me as it was so different sound then everything else, but thats what it was intended for. The production on the neat is amazing, the flow and organization is superb, the chorus is killer and the featured artist Prolifik is great. A track I’m going to pump in my car for a long time.

I believe this album can meet par. It does have enough to make an impact and attract fans and turn heads. I actually can’t wait to hear how D4C’s music improves from hear onwards. I love how he has a great heart for spreading the gospel and how he has a lot of free music out there available for people to get if they can’t afford the album. D4C is someone to definitely take notice of and keep a watch on, because through his attitude and stance as a Christian, I believe this is only the beginning in what God has in store for this mighty man of God and the ministry he proudly represents. You’re review ending is a perfect way to put this young man…

He has the zeal, motivation, capability and positivity to continue making and surpass the music he creates in present time and past time.

But I don’t believe your ratings give this release any justice… yes there is ways for him to improve, but personally this is how I saw it…

    My ratings:

    Music: 8 of 10

    Flow / Delivery: 6.5 of 10

    Lyricism: 6.5 of 10

    Content: 7.5 of 10

    Creativity / Originality / Relevancy: 7.5 of 10

    Credibility / Confidence: 7 of 10

    Personality / Character: 9 of 10

    Presentation Quality: 7 of 10

Overall Production Quality: 7 of 10

    Potential Impact: 8.5 of 10

I believe this kid has a bright future and amazing journey ahead of him. He deserves our support, even with him being from another country. His character and personality as well as drive behind him to make music for our Saviour is one of the best I’ve seen. D4C has a fan in me, and I hope you whoever reads this has a good look at what this amazing artist is doing and what he stands up for with out being shy of his Faith.
