MJ is a first-generation kid who grew up in an Indian family but did not have the “traditional Indian” childhood. From experimenting with the wrong crowds, family members being sent to prison, and struggling to find his faith – Hip-Hop was always the main staple in his life that helped him hold it all together. Growing up listening to artists like Eminem, Jay-Z, Nas, and Kanye West, he was inspired to start writing raps of his own since he was 13-years old. From writing raps in an old notebook, and using a cell phone to record the vocals, MJ quickly found he had a passion for music that he would continue to pursuit moving forward.

Once high school hit, MJ began releasing “remixes” on YouTube, including two of his more popular songs “Best Day Ever” and “Donald Trump” which together accumulated over 100,000 views. Due to family complications, MJ took a lot of his anger and stress out in music, which inspired a darker feel in most of his lyrics. MJ continued pursuing music until graduating high school, where he thought that would be the end of his music career.

Fast forward 4 years later to MJ’s senior year of college, one of his best friends Josh (BKA JustWavyJ) and MJ would always have late-night conversations about chasing the dream of doing something bigger than themselves. This inspired MJ to get back into writing music, where the idea of Sunday Sessions was soon created. For 35 straight weeks, MJ made a new song, while Wavy recorded a music video to pair with each song. Through these Sunday Sessions, MJ has been able to figure out what his true mission in his music career would be: To make positive rap music that would ultimately glorify Christ. This does not necessarily mean MJ is a “Christian” rapper, but wanting to incorporate a positive message that has a mainstream sound that people would listen to as an alternative to the current “popular” rap music. The whole idea behind MJx Music is to share the real stories of the hard and good times of MJ’s life, with the hopes others will relate to finding inspiration and healing through his music.
