DALLAS, TX – September 17, 2013 – Platinum-selling singer/songwriter Chris Tomlin’s most successful tour to date included the services and stage time of Carlos “DJ Promote” Trevino – a key feature he’ll continue to employ when the 22-city “Burning Lights” worship tour begins its fall leg this October.

The Christian Post reports that Tomlin’s average show attendance increased 53 percent over his last tour in 2011-12, and sold out 25 of his shows in large cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Houston and Chicago with others reaching well above 10,000 tickets sold.

Putting Grace on Display: Leading Others to the Cross

This is my first article for Holy Culture (but you’ll be seeing more of me, I promise), and I have been asked by my superiors to jump into the middle of a crazy little battle going on in Christian hip-hop today.
It centers around Lecrae’s latest song “Rebel vs. Gravity,” and Evangel’s response track, and all of the controversy that has come about because of it.

I want to begin by dissecting the actual question posed. In the midst of the controversy and all of the talk of “methodologies,” it can be a little bit challenging to pinpoint exactly what both Lecrae and Evangel are getting at.

At first glance, the question would seem to be “how do you reach the lost,” but I think that’s tangential to the real question posed by each of these artists: “what is the point of your art?”

Why was I created? What is my purpose? How about you, do you know why you are here?  Why do you exist? Do you have a purpose?

I mean, were we created to consume hours of youtube videos while enjoying a bag of Funions on the couch? Really, how many twerking clips of Miley Cirus can you watch? Or maybe our purpose is to solve the infinite levels of Candy Crush.  That’s definitely not my mission in life.  I can’t make it out of level 92.  It’s been about a month. Tips, anyone?
