The 116 Life Ep. 19 – The Authentic 1K Lifestyle with 1K Phew and 1K Pson
Gospel Rap is Back
Are you ready to talk about the comeback of gospel rap? In this episode of The 116 Life with Ace Harris and DJ Mykael V, we sit down with 1K Phew and 1K Pson, dive into the phrase “gospel rap is back” and what it means to us. As someone who grew up in church and around hip hop culture, this phrase is more than just a slogan to the Reach Records heavy hitters.
When Phew first entered the Christian hip hop scene, he felt like I had to water down his true self to fit in. But eventually, he realized that he needed to be true to himself and his roots. “That’s why I believe that gospel rap is making a comeback, not just for me personally, but for others who may have left the scene.”
Now, we know that some people may be offended by the phrase “gospel rap is back,” but the southern gentleman wants to assure you that it comes from his own experiences and is not meant to offend anyone. He simply wants to inspire others to come back to the Christian hip hop scene and be true to themselves.
1K Phew & 1K Pson, the dynamic duo
One song that really resonates with Ace is “Church House Trap House” featuring 1K Pson. This song speaks to the idea of being true to oneself and not trying to fit into a certain mold. It’s important to both Phew and Pson, because it represents the idea that you can be both a Christian and a hip hop artist, without having to compromise your beliefs.
As we wrap up this episode, we want to leave you with this quote from our guest: “Being true to yourself is the most important thing you can do as an artist.” So, if you’re someone who has left the Christian hip hop scene, I encourage you to come back and be true to yourself. And if you’re someone who has never listened to gospel rap before, I encourage you to give it a chance.
Embrace who you are and share your story with the world. Gospel rap is making a comeback, and it’s time to join the movement.
