Gospel music legend Kirk Franklin will be honored with the prestigious Black Music Icon Award during the 2025 Recording Academy Honors, presented by the Black Music Collective. This special event, set for January 30 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, celebrates Franklin’s transformative impact on gospel music and his lasting legacy in the industry.
Franklin, a 20-time GRAMMY winner, has redefined gospel music by blending it with R&B and hip-hop influences. Known for timeless hits like “Stomp” and “Brighter Day,” his innovative style has brought gospel music to mainstream audiences. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr. described Franklin as a trailblazer who “revolutionized gospel music” and continues to inspire generations through his work.
With 13 gold or platinum-certified albums and collaborations with artists like Kanye West and Mary J. Blige, Franklin’s influence transcends genres. Beyond his musical achievements, he is deeply committed to mentoring youth and empowering others through his foundation, The Franklin Imagine Group (TFIG).
The Black Music Collective, a hub for Black music creators under the GRAMMY umbrella, produces the annual event to recognize influential Black artists and industry leaders. This year marks the fourth celebration, highlighting those who have profoundly shaped the music world.
The 2025 GRAMMYs will air live on February 2, culminating a week of festivities honoring nominees and celebrating the music community. Franklin’s recognition serves as a reminder of his enduring legacy, inspiring countless lives through faith, music, and service.
