should pastors use ai? with Travis Johnson

Radio carried Billy Graham’s preaching to millions. The internet put the Bible app in our pockets. On this episode of Faith & AI, Travis Johnson makes the case that AI is the next wave, and that the church can’t afford to sit it out.

Travis is the grandson of a church-planting pastor. He founded an AI company and helps lead Baptize the World, a movement that wants to see 100,000 people baptized on a single Pentecost Sunday. For him, AI started as something personal. As someone with dyslexia and ADD, writing had always been a struggle. AI finally let him communicate in a way that “felt like me.”

He gives ministry leaders three places to start. Use AI to lighten administrative work. Use it to create content faster, so you have more time with people. And ask the tech-savvy person in your church for help, because they’re often waiting to serve.

He’s also honest about the risk. Leaning on AI to write sermons without consulting the Holy Spirit could cost us the most important thing: hearing from God.

Your homework: Pick one task that drains your time each week and try handing it to an AI tool. Then spend the time you get back with God and with people.
