Aletta (born Aletta Meijer) is a Rotterdam-based singer and songwriter. Inspired by singers and songwriters such as Minnie Riperton, Tori Amos, and Michael Jackson, Aletta started writing music as early as the age of 7, which were mainly instrumental pieces on the piano. In her early teens, she started combining her poems and melodies with piano pieces and started her solo performing career in the late 90s.
In the late ’90s/early 2000s, Aletta was a member of several hip-hop and soul groups including Impulse Traveller and Kozmik Booty. With Kozmik Booty she released the EP “Listening to the Sounds of… ” in 2005. It was only in 2010 when Aletta released her first solo album called “A Jump at the Sun.” She has released several singles since, including “Love To Waste.” An open and honest song about her experience with narcissistic abuse, which has touched the “I’ve been here” spot in many of her listeners.
Aletta has been an outspoken advocate for emotional and narcissistic abuse awareness, creating awareness through music and producing the documentary ‘Surviving Narcissists and Psychopaths” in 2019.
After releasing two collaborative singles with DJ Asides and Maverick Soul, Aletta is now releasing another emotional ballad called ‘Second Chances’ on July 5th, 2023.
