Born on July 7, 1985, Matthew Eric Summers has faced incredible challenges. Diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2000, his journey has been marked by Chrons Disease.
In 2011, his weight plummeted from 205 lbs to 92 lbs within months. Over the next six years, he spent two of them bedridden, relearning how to walk with a walker and cane. At his weakest, even water from the shower caused bruises. Matthew battled life-threatening complications, including a heart rate of 22 beats per minute, chronic bleeding, erythema nodosum, anemia, malnutrition, ulcers, osteoporosis, and more. In 2015, he nearly bled to death. A supernatural encounter in 2016 reignited his hope and faith. Despite ongoing health challenges—including a colostomy in 2021, a 27-day hospital stay in early 2023 for sepsis (which infected 80% of his blood stream) and a perforated colon, an ileostomy surgery, and a diagnosis of latent tuberculosis having to take a 9 month regiment of antibiotics.
Born the seventh day of the seventh month on a Sunday and with seven letters in his first name and seven letters in his last name, he sees his journey as a testament to God’s grace. The seven is more than a number but the only complete number, it is a representation of God’s Kingdom. What was once his past has been transformed. In June 2024, following another major surgery to remove his large intestine he has been believer in Christ down to the core. His first year as a teacher in August 2024, has now brought the passion of Christ to the next generation he encounters.
