Album Review: Prodigal Son – Church Drop Out

Published on May 27, 2022

What up family!!!! This is neophytemuziq with this week’s review of the latest in CHH. Today, we take a dive into CHURCH DROPOUT, the latest release from Kelly Williams a.k.a. Prodical Son.

On this project, Prodical Son shares with us some church hurt, personal trials, and tribulations and at the same time challenges church folks to watch how they treat sinners saved by grace so they don’t become CHURCH DROPOUTS.

Some of the highlights of this project are songs like COME AS YOU ARE. This track poses the question, “do we REALLY mean come as you are?” Right from the start, Prodigal Son lets us know where he’s coming from by saying, “Time after time I’ve been noticin’, I’m livin’ my best life when I reak of sin. If wages are death don’t pay me then, ’cause I would stay broke just to live again!!!”

Another stand-out is FAR FROM MY THRONE. Bible tells us we who are in Christ are “heirs to the Kingdom” but Prodical Son lets us know that life itself tells us otherwise. He lets us know dependence on God is essential to stay sane in this seemingly insane world we live in. Other standouts are GO 4 BROKE and PRAY. GO 4 BROKE is a soulful almost throwback to 90’s hip hop, where he reminds us that despite the darts and arrows life may bring, if you go all-in with Jesus, He will see you through. PRAY is the church barbeque banger where Prodical Son goes away from his Tupac-esque type flows and really bounces on this track…..in Jesus’ name!!!!!!

Overall, I give this project the green light. Production is solid and will knock in your systems as you ride through the neighborhood this summer. Do yourself a favor and show love to Prodical Son and his latest offering, CHURCH DROPOUT. You will not be disappointed.
