CHH Reacts to Kendrick Lamar’s Shout Out

Published on September 13, 2024

Kendrick Lamar recently released an untitled song on Instagram and its making waves. While that in itself is not newsworthy, his shout-out to Lecrae and Dee-1 in his lyrics is.

The “Not Like Us” star raps:

“Sometimes I wonder what Lecrae would do?”

and then

“I wanna be empathetic, my heart like Dee-1.”

As it turns out, Kendrick goes back with both CHH veterans, each of which responded on social media.

Rapzilla‘s own Luc DiMarzio stated:

“IMO this is the dopest shout-out a Christian rapper can get in a song like this because of the context- Kendrick is shouting them out as Godly men, as Godly examples of men who pray and who don’t lack empathy.

That’s pointing to their witness and their fruit. Rather than just bars and artistry.

The former is the goal – That we would shine our light before men that they would see Christ’s work in us and therefore turn their hearts towards him. (Matthew 5)”

CHH Vet KB also responded positively, making a reaction video where he says:

“The reason why he mentioned them went beyond their music, there is no mention of their music. The reason why he mentions them goes beyond Lecrae and Dee-1 catalog. What he was struck by, the reason why I believe any Christian should be striking in the heart of folks who are observing us- and that is he reflected on who they were as people.”

Fans watching this play out seem to have one collective thought: is Kendrick Lamar converting?

It’s time for us as a body to pray for Kendrick Lamar.

If you listen carefully to the words of the song, he is at a crossroads where is wrestling with the world as it stands, looking for something more and yearning to be different.

May the Lord continue to do his work in Kendrick, and surround him with people that can pour faith into him. As we wait the Lord take hold of us his heart, let us lift him in prayer and hope he can one day use his gift for God’s glory.
