Jay Bizzze’s YOUNG SAMSON is a brilliant reason why Christian Rap is so important

Published on September 3, 2024

What began as one of many alter egos that Christian Rapper, songwriter, and founder of his Christian streetwear brand, HizBizNiz, Jay Bizzze had adopted in 2021 (listen to the intro of his grim and eerie single, Mr. Doomzilla), has slowly and meticulously transformed into his first full-length project. Loosely based on the story of Samson as told in Judges 13-16, YOUNG SAMSON acts as a moniker in which Jay Bizzze cleverly divulges his bouts with lust and pride, the importance of the Holy Spirit, and the need for repentance from sin, which are the four key pillars that support YOUNG SAMSON.

Across seven lush-produced tracks (one Spoken word and one interlude), Jay juxtaposes the successes and failures of Samson with his own to help the listener learn how to overcome lust, pride, and temptation. It’s worth noting how well Jay addresses dark topics plaguing the current generation, such as po*n, through thought-provoking story-telling (Concupiscence is an excellent example of that) and catchy melodies that stick with you long after the album is over. The tagline for his debut studio album, YOUNG SAMSON, perfectly reflects the message found throughout his lyrics, “I hope this album helps you.”
