AyeTJ Official “ESAU” Video
AyeTJ premier his “ESAU” video earlier this month.
Here is what he said about the inspiration for the song, on his YouTube channel:
“Each time I face conflict with friends, stumble in sin, or fail, I have difficulty understanding God’s grace. Both to give grace and to receive it. I’m in a season of seeking forgiveness from those I’ve wronged, but also from those who’ve deeply hurt me. It’s easy to spiral into thinking God can’t use me because of my shortcomings, or similarly that God can’t use leaders who have failed. Looking back at the hero-villain arc in the Bible, I’m reminded that God uses weak people who fail miserably, to do unimaginable good. My song, “Esau” is about taking God out of the MCU-sized box we’ve created. The box that says God has no power to change our sick, twisted nemesis, or that I myself have fallen too far from grace. I’ve crumpled under hardened hearts and lost hope. I’ve lost hope in people I’ve known closely, and people in general. That’s not the problem. My hope’s not in People. God calls us to “Pray for our enemies,” for a reason. When we pray for our enemies it works the miracle of forgiveness, and it guards against forming hearts of stone. I’ll be honest, I’ve had to do some soul-searching. Especially when it comes to what I believe God can redeem. I am still in that process. Still waiting for God to redeem areas of my past. Praying for enemies and against bitterness that lingers and stains my hope. I pray this song helps you process your unforgiveness as much as it has mine.”
