From Locked Up to #1 Gospel Records: PT The Gospel Spitter
PT The Gospel Spitter grew up in church, with Presbyterian services and Baptist services every Sunday. He was baptized in college. Then he did what so many church kids do: he decided he’d already “put in his time” with God. On this episode of WhatItIzWhatItBeezLike?!, he tells King Cyz where that thinking led him. Anger he didn’t know he was carrying eventually landed him in prison.
One night in his cell, PT finally broke down. He hid it from his cellmates and asked God one question: What did You make me for? The answer took him back to the youth choir and the gospel talent shows his mother signed him up for. He began writing songs and sharing them in prayer circles on the rec yard. Two days after his release, a man who believed in his purpose paid for his first studio session.
Today PT has six #1 records, an award-winning film, and a bestselling coloring book, Good News, which grew out of a song he wrote while locked up. He calls it his own parable of the talents. “Be faithful to whatever that purpose is,” he says, “and don’t bury it.”
Your homework: Ask God the same question PT did: What did You make me for? Then name one small step you can take this week to stop burying your talent.
