You Deserve This Season More Than You Think

There’s a line in this week’s episode of I’ll Just Let Myself In that stops you cold: if you sat in the house with the blinds closed all winter, and you sit in the house with the blinds closed all summer, it doesn’t matter that the season outside has changed. The weather shifted. You didn’t. And so nothing shifted at all.

Lish Speaks builds this whole episode around that uncomfortable truth. Summer is here, the city is alive, and a natural shift is happening all around us—but the benefits of a new season only reach the people who decide to meet it. She keeps it simple with two moves. First, decide this season will be different. A decision is a powerful thing, because once you make one, everything in your life quietly starts organizing itself around it. Opportunities to be more ambitious, more gracious, more grounded in the Word show up right after you commit to becoming that person.

Second, make a big deal out of the little things. Lish credits her husband for teaching her this—that the majority of life isn’t red carpets and big trips, it’s the mundane, the everyday, the couch on a Tuesday. When you learn to celebrate a park bench, some pancakes, and three uninterrupted hours with a friend, you start to realize the little things are what actually make a life big.

She doesn’t leave you with pressure. She leaves you with permission. Whether your season is full or slowed down, whether God has you moving or resting, the invitation is the same: shed the layers you carried last season—the defensiveness, the worry, the shame—and step into who this season is inviting you to become. Journal it. Ask what you want. Believe you deserve it.

Because this season, summer and beyond, can be whatever you decide to make it. So what do you want it to be?
