José Hernández, also known as IronHeart or Pastor Jochy, is of Dominican origin. He came to know God at the age of 10. His testimony, however, begins before his birth. Due to various situations, his mother gave him up for adoption.
When he found out about his adoption during an argument with his adoptive mother at age 15, José strayed from God’s path and began seeking refuge in parties and vanity.
As the years went by, specifically in 2010, he reconciled with God and got involved in urban ministry, forming one of the most well-known hip/hop dance choreography ministries in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
In mid-2012, he suffered a pre heart attack. Doctors diagnosed that if he didn’t get a valve replacement, he would die within 2 months. During those months, God arranged everything related to the transplant procedure. Since José came from a poor family, he didn’t have the resources for the operation, which cost $89,000 USD.
Despite all the obstacles, God made it so that José paid no more than $100. Out of a waiting list of 25 patients for this surgery, José was the first of the 10 surgeries performed.
Of the 7 people who successfully came out of surgery, José was the one who recovered the fastest and best from the process. From this experience of receiving a mechanical valve, the stage name “IronHeart” was born.
Today, he is an artist, pastor, and missionary, dedicated full-time to the work of God. José is the husband of Tammi Biggs, who is Co-Pastor of Tal Como Soy M, and the father of 2 beautiful children: Arthur Isaac and Hope Eliana.
He uses urban music in his church, Tal Como Soy, to help people connect with God in a more relatable language. He recognizes the importance of people feeling accepted for who they are right now, and allowing the Holy Spirit to make the necessary changes to become everything God says they are. José and his wife feel driven to declare who God is to the new generation.
