Precursor Mentality Returns to Form with “One Day”

Published on November 12, 2025

Matthew Kerr, also known as Precursor Mentality, is a Christian emcee and producer out of New Jersey who has been on the scene for over a decade at this point. While Precursor is more focused on his production these days, his past work on the mic cannot be glossed over. After falling in love with Hip-Hop in 5th Grade, by the time he turned 13 he started making beats. Heavily inspired by the ‘Golden Era’ of Hip-Hop, Precursor Mentality isn’t afraid to step into other genres of production as well. Fast forward and Precursor Mentality’s decade long discography has the New Jersey upstart working along the likes of Jurny Big (The Tunnel Rats), DJ Sean P, Cas Metah (Scribbling Idiots), Myka 9, Von Pea (Tanya Morgan) and more. Now Precursor is back with his first official single in FIVE years with “One Day” featuring vocals from Lexly Nirvana.

“One Day” comes at the perfect time given everything that’s been going on outside over the last couple of years. The beat, produced by Precursor Mentality himself, brings a genius combination of golden age Hip-Hop and electronic essence to present something truly energetic yet grimy at the same time. Precursor’s passionate delivery is here to instill hope and motivation in the listener. Texas’ Lexly Nirvana smashes through on the second verse with a delivery as smooth as butter, reminding the listener to believe in The Most High and “One Day” your dreams will come true. “One Day” is an anthem that is guaranteed to put a battery in the listener’s back and plays like a sampler into what we can expect in 2026. Precursor Mentality has confirmed that he’s sitting on an entire universe of music and “One Day” is just the beginning.
