JustCordell was born fighting for his sound given an umbilical cord being tangled around his neck during birth. He grew to be a voice of the Kingdom of God.

Gospel Hip-Hop Artist (Cordell Breeding), better known as JustCordell was born Sunday, June 9th, 1991, in Birmingham, Alabama. Life for Cordell started with a fight for his sound, as during labor Cordell had an emergency c-section due to his umbilical cord being tangled around his neck. Coincidentally this ten-pound baby boy would soon grow to be a voice of the Kingdom of God. JustCordell started his music career in 2016 after 4 years of honorable service in the United States Marine Corps. After this time, Cordell dealt with PTSD and anger management issues that led to a troubling two-year stint that would include multiple arrests and a broken family. Growing up a “Church Boy” his entire life, Cordell fell in love with praise and worship, serving on the Brothers in Christ step team and youth praise and worship team. Cordell was introduced to Christian Hip-hop at the age of 11. Local Christian artists Short Tee and Big Prophet became major influences that shaped the artist and started the fire that would soon grow to reach so many. Cordell’s household, mainly single, parented the majority of his childhood, was full of adversity and trials. As the youngest child of three, Cordell would often find himself in what society had deemed normal in the environment and poverty-stricken communities. Cordell’s Mother, Angela Breeding, constantly attempted to create a better life for her family and would often work multiple jobs to afford housing that was always right outside the rougher neighborhoods. The influence of Cordell’s mother was made evident in his childhood upbringing but wasn’t always the case for his Siblings. Cordell Lost his oldest Sister, Koraniqua Breeding, at the age of 15 in an unfortunate car accident. During the time of devastation, music quickly became Cordell’s only outlet.  In June 2009, after graduating high school, Cordell immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where she served a four-year stint, including a tour in Afghanistan. The young artist was learning to deal with the chaos surrounding him and began writing songs at the age of 19. This open expression led to Cordell encountering the God he had gone to see his whole life. Music always being his first love, during the time of restoration JustCordell vowed to give his gifts back to God and hasn’t looked back since. The Alabama 2018 Gospel Artist of the Year has been linked to tours, including Prison Fellowship and Hydrate School Campus tours. His collaborations with various artists make him a multicultural voice. We asked him what his inspirations were, and he said, “My inspiration is to See Christ take back the airwaves of this generation. To redeem the God-given sound to its original purpose. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”
