The State of Gospel Music (Newark, NJ)
The State of Gospel Music and the Celebration of Juneteenth/Black Music Month will provide a platform to engage the community, especially in the arts and education centered around “Gospel Music”, Part I (May 6th) and Part II will pay homage to Juneteenth while Celebrating Black Music Month focusing on the Evolution of Music through its many genre’s (June 17th). A discussion elaborating on major obstacles of survival in a developing world, primarily in urban communities, including the breakdown of the family, unemployment, disenfranchised, inclusive of the lack of social/support services, and the decline of spirituality. Recognizing that a systemic problem exists in the educational and social development of our people, we will address the lack of education among the urban adult population.
A plethora of local and out-of-town gospel and secular artists will collaborate their gifts and talents during both events. The incomparable, Gospel Recording Artist, Dorothy Norwood (May 6th) as well as Dionne Warwick, and CeCe Rogers along with America’s First Hip Hop Politician Councilman, Dupre’ Kelly (June 17th) just to name a few will gather at the NJPAC Arts Education Building, 24 Rector Pl., Newark, NJ.
