Rapzilla 2023 Freshman Kieran The Light Child, from secular to sacred.
If you are familiar with Rapzilla 2023 Freshman, Kieran the Light, you know he gets it in! If this is your introduction to him, stop reading, go to his IG and check out the timeline and then come back and get to know the CHH lyrical legend. And yes, we are calling him a legend. If he never put out another song, his Witchcraft series cemented his spot in Christian Hip Hop History.
Kieran, the light child
Kieran, who’s been into music since he was 10, started off in the secular world of Hip Hop after hearing Lil’ Wayne. “I wanted to rap like that. I just started creating music that had nothing to do with my life. Just fake stuff. Talking about money I didn’t have. Girls and stuff at 16 [Kieran’s age at the time]. I just wanted to come up with really great wordplay.”
As he grew older and began experiencing the reality and trials of life, he realized he was trying to fill the void. “It led me to a place where the pain of my sin became greater than the pleasure of it,” says Kieran. It was at that moment he decided to actively seek God. “The best way I knew how to do that is through my music. Just with myself. It wasn’t even for other people.”
Kieran admits he was really just on a journey of discovery using his music as a diary of sorts. “The more that I would do that, the more that would go on in my life and I would put it in the music. It started getting deep. At some point, people started listening and they started being affected by it. I wasn’t trying to teach or lead. On that journey he [God] began to cultivate my mind, my spirit to get closer and closer to him.”
“I’m a bit too aggressive,” Kieran confesses. “Paul was like that in the bible. Tough love. I’m not trying to make happy jolly nursey rhyme tracks. I want you to believe me. I have to be bold and confident when I say it.” Realizing that there are times when a gentle approach is appropriate the emcee says, “There’s no point in winning the argument if you lose the person. And I’m not trying to be out here looking like I know more than everybody else.”
From Rapzilla Freshman to label owner
Now the Rapzilla Freshman is taking on the kingdom business, expanding his work to include running his own label. “He [God] been putting this vision in me for so long. Forgiven Music. For a long time, I knew I was forgiven, I just ain’t feel like it. And this music that I make, allows people to feel like their accepted. And feel like their sins are forgiven because when I relate to them in areas where they feel like the things that eliminate them from being chosen by God,” Kieran explains.
He goes on to say that we [people] have to feel that acceptance and love in order for us to truly be delivered.
