Day 1 | Stripping the Fear of Man

Published on August 3, 2026

Obedience is easy in the absence of pressure, ridicule, and sacrifice. What do we do when our obedience to God costs us the approval of friends, strangers, family, coworkers, or a partner?

Obedience forces us to prioritise our faith in, and fear of God over human expectations, and that choice feels uncomfortable. Scripture tells us in Matthew 6:24 that no one can serve two masters. We choose whom and what we serve every single day.

Galatians 1:10 reinforces this choice: “Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.” Compromise and sin line up with the enemy, while obedience and faithfulness align us directly with Christ.

As our relationship with God grows, delighting in His ways makes obedience second nature as we align our thoughts and actions with His word. Yet we always face a choice, and in that choice lies the power to avoid the snares caused by peer pressure or perceived loss. We must stand in our authority and fear God.

Practical Application

Think of a specific time you compromised your morals to appease someone else. Ask God for forgiveness, then write down two or three concrete steps you will take to avoid that compromise in the future.

Reflection Questions

1.      What are some healthy boundaries I can set to ensure I choose God’s ways over expectations that contradict His word?

2.      How can I practice holy reverence in my daily decisions?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Your word in Proverbs 29:25 reminds us that the fear of man brings a snare, but whoever puts trust in You shall be safe. Increase our faith and help us trust You when our immediate situations produce fear, doubt, or anxiety. You are God, and nothing is too hard for You. We stand on Your promises and hope in Your grace. Amen.
