Day 16 | Stewardship of the Temple

Published on August 18, 2026

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 | 1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV)

We live in a time when many of us are praying for more capacity, strength, reach, and responsibility, seeking greater room to be used by God, who often expands us in His mercy.

But sometimes, before He gives us more, He calls us to care more tenderly for what we already carry.

Some of us have been trying to hold spiritual responsibility in bodies that are weary, undernourished, and running on empty. We love God, and we are called, but the vessel still needs care.

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, KJV

“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” 1 Corinthians 9:27, KJV

Paul speaks to us with the wisdom of someone who understands that endurance is part of obedience. He is not speaking harshly, but honestly. He reminds us that the body is not a burden to despise, but a temple to steward. A vessel to honor and a gift to care for.

The way we eat matters, as does the way we rest, pace ourselves, and listen to our bodies.

Stewardship is gentler than striving. It asks, not “How can I do more?” but “How can I remain faithful with what God has entrusted to me?”

Some of us have been feeling the strain of trying to move at a pace our bodies can no longer sustain. But grace does not shame us for needing rest. Grace invites us into wisdom, and teaches us that rest is not rebellion. Sometimes rest is reverence.

It is holy to close the laptop.

It is holy to drink the water.

It is holy to eat the meal.

It is holy to go to bed when your body is asking for sleep.

It is holy to trust God with the world while you rest.

We were never meant to be exhaustively productive; our true calling is to be faithful.

So today, let us honor the temple. Let us tend to the body with compassion. Let us make room for health, nourishment, rest, and boundaries that protect the assignment God has given us.

For the vision.

Practical Application

Take a moment today and ask: Where has my body been asking for care? Sleep? Food? Water? Rest? Movement? Write down one or two ways you can honor that need this week, and treat it like a spiritual commitment rather than a personal failure.

Reflection Questions

  1. What am I asking God for right now, and what would my body need to carry it well?
  2. Where have I confused tiredness with faithfulness?
  3. If my body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, what would gentle stewardship look like in my daily life?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that our bodies belong to You. Forgive us for the times we have worn exhaustion like a badge and ignored the gentle wisdom of rest. Teach us to care for the temple You have given us. Help us to eat with wisdom, sleep with peace, and live with the kind of balance that honors You. Strengthen us where we are weak, and teach us to trust You when we lay burdens down.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
