Day 18 | Clarity Through Surrender

There are some times in life where our judgement gets a little cloudy. We lose focus on the things in life that are really important. And in those moments we lose sight of the things that God has called us to do.
There can be a plethora of reasons why these times come upon us. Job and/or family obligations, things that we do for others, even the things that we enjoy doing have the opportunity to pull us away from the things that God really needs for us to spend our time on. It’s not an uncommon thing. We all have moments like this.
So what do we do when we find ourselves in these situations? Well one thing we can do is just stop for a moment and just be still. The Bible teaches us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Trust is an act of surrender and surrender is an act of humility. With the root word of humility being “humiliate”, we must come to a place where we are willing to admit that we don’t have it all together.
Sometimes, that admission is frightening, but it is literally how we are to move through this world as believers. God expects us to “act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God” (Micah 6:8). But we are to not move this way through the world as individuals but also as a collective body of Christ. The Bible teaches us that “if my people, who are called by my name, would humble themselves and prays and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:18). As you can see, prayer is our “stillness” and in that stillness we can hear from God, above all the noise and distractions that the world presents us.
So the next time you find yourself losing your way or are feeling like you need some direction, pray this prayer:
Father, I feel lost in this world
I know You have a plan for my life
However, I’m having a hard time
Hearing You above the noise of life
Lord, silence the world around me
So that I may hear more of You
For You hold all the answers I need
In Jesus name, Amen
Reflection Question:
Where in your life right now do you feel the most mentally or spiritually overwhelmed, and what might God be inviting you to surrender to Him in that area?
