Day 21 | What It Means to Be Led by God
Published on May 26, 2026

We, as Christians, often tend to assume that being led by God means He shows us the destination and then we walk toward it. But that is not the picture Scripture says: the most enduring image of God’s leadership is that of a shepherd, and a sheep is not briefed on the route. The sheep simply remain close enough to follow their leader. In the same way, being led by God is less about having every answer and more about staying near the One who does.
This is the heart of the most famous passage in all of Scripture. “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake” (Psalm 23:1-3). Notice who is doing the work: the shepherd leads, guides, makes, and refreshes. The sheep’s entire job, on the other hand, is to be led. We exhaust ourselves trying to map out a future only God can see, when the invitation has always been simpler and far more freeing than that. Stay close. Follow. Trust the One who is leading.
That does not mean we sit still and do nothing. It means we hold our plans with open hands. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6). God promises to straighten your path as you walk it, that the steps will become clear in the walking, and that you will look back one day and see a coherent road where it only ever felt like uncertainty in the moment.
So, as this Reset comes to a close, carry this forward as the foundation underneath your growth. You do not need full clarity about your calling or career to be where God wants you today. Clarity will come in pieces, and the same God who led you faithfully through these twenty-one days will keep leading you through everything that comes after.
Reflection Questions
1. Where have I been trying to be my own shepherd, exhausting myself mapping out a future only God can see?
2. What would it look like for me to stay close to God today and trust Him to lead, even without full clarity about where He is taking me?
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank You for walking with me through all twenty-one days of this Reset. As it comes to a close, I lay down my need to see the whole path before I move. Forgive me for trying to be my own shepherd, for exhausting myself mapping out a future only You can see. Help me stay close to You and trust You to lead me one field at a time. I do not need to understand the whole way. I only need to follow You. Make my paths straight as I walk them, and keep leading me through everything that comes after this challenge. You are my Shepherd, and I lack nothing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
