Day 6 | Your Body Is a Temple

Devotion Written By: King Cyz

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in
you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a
price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV

Message:
Just imagine saying you want to participate in the Spartan Race or even Hyrox.
You go to the gym every day to lift weights, run laps at the local track, etc., but
instead of drinking water and eating clean, you decide to drink Dr Pepper and
eat Popeyes Chicken every day. How well do you think you’re going to do at
these events?

Better yet, will you even make it to the finish line of either one?

This is what it looks like when you don’t treat your entire body like a temple for
the Holy Spirit. In I Cor. 6:19-20, it clearly reminds us that as disciples of the
Lord Jesus Christ, our bodies don’t belong to us anymore. It’s now the temple or
housing for the Holy Spirit.

This requires that we glorify God physically and
spiritually. As we nurture the body spiritually with prayer, fasting, devotion,
worship, and the reading/studying of the Word, we must do the same with our
physical bodies through exercise, nutrition, and rest.

This helps to reduce stress, which positively impacts our overall mental focus.

Here are a few ways to be more intentional about our spiritual and physical health:

1. Use movement as a method of meditation.

2. Reduce stress with more prayer and worship time.

3.Develop healthier eating habits.

4. Let your attitude reflect gratitude from the inside out.

5. Practice discipline in every area that could potentially impact your
physical body in a negative way.

Prayer:
God strengthen me to do what I need to do physically to stay on pace with my
spiritual walk. Help me to honor you with my physical being just as I do
spiritually when I pray, read your word, and worship you. I desire to be a greater
steward of my temple because this is apart of my worship to you and this I do to
honor and glorify You.

Reflection Questions:

  1. In what ways have my daily habits either strengthened or weakened my ability to honor God with my body, and what specific change is God prompting me to make right now?
  2. How would my spiritual life improve if I treated my physical health with the same intentionality and discipline that I give to prayer, worship, and reading the Word?
