Day 7 | The Altar In The Wilderness

Supporting Scriptures:

Exodus 13:21 | Proverbs 3:5-6

Most people prefer maintaining absolute control over their lives. This could be because being able to make independent decisions creates a powerful illusion of security. Yet God frequently guides us down paths where our human intellect fails, leaving us with no alternative but to rely completely on His direction to survive the trial.

In 2022, I was driving home from work when I fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a parked truck. A subsequent medical evaluation revealed life-altering news: I had type 2 Narcolepsy. The specific job I relied on to support my family was no longer a viable resource. Fear and helplessness took over almost immediately, but God used the crisis to remind me that He is the true source of our provision. Throughout two years of unemployment, He sustained us practically, providing temporary work through a friend and opening up an ideal career opportunity for my wife to cover our household expenses.

The historical journey of the Israelites to the Promised Land was incredibly difficult. Exodus 13:21 states that the Lord went ahead of them, guiding them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night so they could travel continuously. God could easily have directed them along a shorter geographical route, but He chose the longest, most demanding path. He knew that a sudden encounter with warfare would cause them to panic and return to Egypt. The wilderness was an intentional training ground.

You may currently occupy a highly difficult situation characterized by zero personal control and an uncertain outcome. Remember that God goes directly before you in every crisis. He demands that you treat Him as your primary source rather than relying solely on human strategy.

Practical Application

List the three largest financial or situational uncertainties currently causing you anxiety. Hand them over to God in prayer, explicitly stating that you surrender the timeline and the ultimate outcome to His authority.

Reflection Questions

1. What specific areas of my life am I still attempting to control through sheer human effort?

2. How has a past season of lack or uncertainty proven God’s reliability as a provider in my life?

Prayer

Lord, grant me the endurance to trust Your direction when life brings severe uncertainty. Forgive me for losing focus when the path becomes long. Recalibrate my mind to know that You will never abandon Your children in the wilderness. Amen.
