Dezzy Yates Featured On Album With Dave East, Benny the Butcher, and Others

Published on September 25, 2023

CHH artist Dezzy Yates was recently selected to be a part of a project honoring Street Fighter and the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop. The project is a 17-track collaboration effort between NERDS Clothing (a streetwear brand that has collaborated with WWE, AEW, and Capcom), MNRK Music Group (formerly eONE Music), and platinum-selling producers Steel Sessions (production/engineer credits include: J.Cole, Dave East, Jadakiss, and Drake). Some of the artists that will be included on this album are Benny the Butcher, Royce da 5’9, Smoke DZA, Papoose, and Dave East. The album will be available digitally and for streaming on October 6th, 2023.

The song that will be featured on the project is called Sonic Boom and will also feature nerd-core hip-hop artist Mega Ran. It samples Guile’s Theme from the Street Fighter II video game and is produced by long-time collaborator The Alumni. This song is actually over seven years old and was originally on his Tales From the Checkered Backpack mixtape that was released in 2016.

Dezzy Yates has been a contributor to the sphere of Christian Hip Hop for almost a decade and has released several projects over the years, the most recent being Graffiti Blues. He hopes that this news encourages fellow artists within the space to continue to trust God in their personal journeys, and that “despite all the setbacks, trusting Jesus always pays off in the end.”

Below is the official press release from HipHopSince1987:

“In celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip hop this August, MNRK Music Group, NERDS Clothing, and platinum-selling producers Steel Sessions have partnered to release a 17-song original soundtrack with songs inspired by the sights, sounds, and action of the Street Fighter ™ franchise. A physical release of the soundtrack is due later this year.
The first single, “Perfect,” features Benny the Butcher’s Black Soprano Family and is out now. “Perfect” was produced by Steel Sessions’ Buda & Grandz, Ky Miller and Mike Kuz.
