Published on June 20, 2026

JuJu Walker is a Gospel, Soul, R&B, and Melodic Rap artist from Hawaii, raised in Detroit, Michigan. She calls her sound Gumbo Soul — because like the dish, you use what you have.

Her debut EP Daddy Issues (June 10, 2026) is a six-track healing arc — Wound to Fight to Surrender to Rise to Declaration to Worship — written for the seekers, the skeptics, and the souls who kept their faith even after the people who carried it let them down.

This is church for the ones the church forgot. This is Gumbo Soul.

Meet Gumbo Soul: JuJu Walker's Debut EP "Daddy Issues" Is Church for the Ones the Church Forgot**

There's a woman sitting in the back pew. She knows every hymn. She can quote the scripture. She showed up — even after the people who were supposed to represent God let her down. She kept her faith, but she's still carrying the weight of what it cost her.

JuJu Walker made an EP for her.

*Daddy Issues* — the six-track debut from Gospel, Soul, R&B, and Melodic Rap artist JuJu Walker — is one of the most honest recordings to come out of the faith-based music space in recent memory. It doesn't preach at you. It sits with you. It tells the truth about what it actually feels like to love God and still be healing from the people who carried His name.

**A Sound Like No Other**

JuJu Walker calls her sound Gumbo Soul — and the name is earned.

Born in Hawaiʻi as a military brat, shaped by a church-pioneering family in Detroit, Michigan, and rooted by a Louisiana husband and five daughters, JuJu has never lived inside one lane. She is half Mediterranean Italian, half Black — a self-described cappuccino — who has moved through multiple worlds without fully belonging to any of them. So she stopped trying to fit and started cooking.

Gumbo Soul is the result. Like the dish, it is rich, layered, and made from everything she has. Gospel. Soul. R&B. Melodic Rap. Influences ranging from Alicia Keys and Mali Music to Tems and Lucky Daye. The sound sits between a worship set and a late-night conversation with God — honest enough to make you uncomfortable, sacred enough to make you stay.

"Culture shock is what my whole life has been," JuJu says. "Just an identity crisis. So as a mixed kid — I got a little bit of cream in my coffee. Just call me a cappuccino."

**The Arc of Daddy Issues**

*Daddy Issues* is not a collection of songs. It is a complete healing arc told across six tracks — Wound to Fight to Surrender to Rise to Declaration to Worship — and every track earns its place in the journey.

It opens with the title track, a daughter's honest cry to an earthly father who walked away. No performance. No polish. Just grief, questions, and the complicated love of a child who kept her faith even when the pastor left. *"I got your Bible, but it don't feel right."*

From there, the EP moves through fight (*Pulled the Trigger*), surrender (*Seek You*), rising (*Armor of Adonai*), and declaration (*No Weapon*) before closing with the remix of *Seek You* — where the intimate worship of one voice opens into a communal celebration. Full circle. Wound to worship.

The standout lines hit hard:

*"I was chosen in secret so I'll rise in His time."* — Pulled the Trigger

*"I don't fight like I used to, I just move like I'm covered."* — Armor of Adonai

*"I don't argue with the dark, I just move like Jesus did."* — No Weapon

These are not clichés. These are the words of a woman who has actually been through it and came out still believing.

**Why This Matters**

The faith-based music space has no shortage of worship anthems and victory declarations. What it rarely produces is music that honors the in-between — the valley, the doubt, the complicated relationship with a God you love and a church that hurt you.

*Daddy Issues* lives in that space. And it does so without ever losing its faith. JuJu Walker is not a skeptic making peace with God. She is a believer telling the full truth about what belief actually costs — and what it ultimately gives back.

JuJu Walker is an independent artist managed by BigGuy MGMT. *Daddy Issues* is available now on all streaming platforms.

*"The soundtrack of a woman who didn't fit in anywhere and decided to create her own box and tell the truth once and for all."*
