Tobi Toun Confronts the Limits of Love with “Messiah”
Published on July 9, 2026
Exploring friendship, boundaries, and the grace of letting go.
Nigerian rapper and poet Tobi Toun releases his new single “Messiah”. Written and produced
by Tobi Toun, “Messiah” is built around a real tension: the desire to show up for someone, and
the moment you realise you cannot be their salvation.
Over a reflective Afro Hip-Hop production, Tobi writes to a friend who pulled away, not with
resentment, but with the kind of honesty that only comes after you’ve already tried everything
else.
The song does not preach. It sits with the discomfort of loving someone you cannot reach, and
the faith required to let that be enough. Where the verse extends a hand, the hook draws the
line, “Me I no be Messiah”. Where the bridge could turn cold, it turns inward, asking the same
friend to pray for him in return.
It is a song about boundaries. About correction that comes from love, not disappointment. About
the quiet grace of stepping back and trusting God with what your friendship could not fix.
Tobi Toun has been making music since 2015, drawing listeners with writing that Rapzilla
described as having “the precision of a poet and the conscience of a prophet.” “Messiah”
continues that tradition.
“Messiah” is available on all major streaming platforms.
