10 Christian Afrobeats Songs You Should Check Out in 2023!

The year has been a huge one for the Afrobeats genre and its creators, so far they have been able to dominate charts as well as champion the crossover to different parts of the world from small events spaces to big arenas and we’re here for all of it. There’s no doubt that there’s a different vibe that comes with the Afrobeats sound, one that fuses different elements of music (drums, percussions, guitars and more) which makes it special.  

In the forefront of this global dominance of African countries is Nigeria – its artists shutting down shows representing it proudly on the global stage. Getting nominations for major awards and influencing the world with their sound.

So far in 2023, we’ve had tons of music drops from several artists and we’ve been introduced to more new artists with fantastic music. Within Afrobeats the Christian community has found a strong army of artists dedicated to using music as their ministry- a subgenre called AfroGospel – Afrobeats with a gospel twist.

In this article, we look through ten Christian Afrobeats songs you should have on your playlists and music library in 2023.

1. Victor Thompson & Ehis D’ Greatest- “This Year”

This Year” is undoubtedly the biggest Christian song out of Africa in 2023, with over 80 Million streams and several million on the various remixes – it is more than evident on how successful the song has been. 

Following, the viral success of the song, Victor Thompson linked up with U.S rapper Gunna and performing the song at his show in October which birthed the release of a Gunna Remix for the song  which reached #1 on Gospel Billboard Gospel charts. 

It’s definitely worth a listen.

2. Limoblaze & Annatoria – “Put It on God”

Limoblaze has been on a roll since signing with Reach Records, and  keeps dishing out instant hits and “Put It On God” is one of those jams that has made its mark in 2023. The song which is now an anthem at every Limoblaze show has garnered over 1.7 Million streams on Spotify  and has had an impressive run across all platforms.

3. Moses Bliss – “Daddy Wey Dey Pamper (Gbedu Version)”

Moses Bliss is a household name when it comes to Nigerian Christian contemporary music but he switched it up with the remix of one of his biggest songs this year, “Daddy Wey Dey Pamper.” For the remix, Moses Bliss links up with AfroGospel rave Greatman Takit and Prinx Emmanuel who both add a more groovy pattern to the song.

4. Called Out Music – “Day By Day”

U.K based singer and producer, Called Out Music never has a bad song and the song “Day By Day” just goes to show how good his sound is. The track which is one of the singles on his new EP – RADICAL, talks about his desire to follow Christ all through regardless of what people say.

5. Anendlessocean – “Alone”

The year has been a really huge one for rising artist, Anendlessocean who released his debut project, Decagon in August. His hit single “Alone,” has been streamed over half a million times on Spotify and caught social media by storm as a viral challenge. AEO, as he calls himself, has a growing fanbase out of Nigeria and different parts of the world as he looks to host his first ever show in November.

6. Nolly – “Good ft. Omojo”

“Good” by Nolly is an AfroPop track you should listen to. The song which is one of the singles off Nolly’s second album Grace and Glory out this Friday brings in a different vibe to Christian Afrobeats. Nolly, a rapper and singer, delivers a fusion of rap and Afrobeats while Omojo seals the song with a catchy hook. “Good” talks about God’s goodness in all seasons even in trying times and all we go through in life.

7. Prinx Emmanuel – “Bigger (Odogwu)”

If you need a song to brag about the greatness of God, then “Bigger (Odogwu)” is the jam for you. Prinx Emmanuel boldly praises God and talks of his supremacy on this track. Already known for his energetic spirit, Prinx also delivered top notch with the music video for the song which has been out for a couple of weeks, the visuals to the song carries that energetic vibe, one that will make you dance on the go. In three months of its release, the song has crossed over 360K on Spotify and keeps growing with several Instagram reels using the sound.

8. Ryan Ofei – “Daily Remix ft. Limoblaze, Becca Folkes, Nonso Amadi”

This is a song with no misses and the collab was just right on time to add to the growth of the song. Released in September, “Daily” is gradually becoming an anthem, especially the remix featuring U.K singer Becca Folkes and Nigerian artists Limoblaze & Nonso Amadi. 

We all need God 24/7 in our daily life and even life’s own journey and the song says it all with Becca Folkes, Limoblaze adding the AfroGospel bounce while Nonso Amadi spicing it up with that alternative music vibe. It’s a jam and then some!

9. K3ndrick – “Really”

Rising artist, K3ndrick (pronounced Kendrick) released the single “Really” in February and since then it keeps gaining reactions online, growing numbers. The mid-tempo song is a rendition of praise to God for all he’s done, with over 230K Spotify streams, it’s a song you should listen to. 

The music video which has been out for a while, also tells the story of one with no worries because God has got it all. This is the faith we should have in Christ, because the Lord is in control of whatever we are going through and it’ll all end in praise.

10. Theresa Phondo, Noel Mio, KingDMusic & Marizu – “Blessings(Everywhere I Go)”

This is one of the songs that has rocked the year, so good that a remix version was made. “Blessings” which has gathered over 700K streams on spotify and 200K Instagram reels videos on the original song with celebrities like Meagan Good, Tamera Housley and more jumping on the sound. It’s become a viral soundtrack on the platform and keeps growing each day. 

As the song chorus says; “Blessings on blessings on me, everywhere I go there’ll be” it literally declares God’s blessings on us in all seasons and in all we do, a song of prayer you’d like to put on rotation in your daily activities.

It’s evident that the year has been a huge one for AfroGospel and a major shift has begun with these new sounds emerging.  Not only are these artists releasing these songs on their own, there have also been major collaborations spinning out and we’re here for it as we see the gospel takeover on all sides. We can say that Christian Afrobeats is here to stay for a very long time and we look to experience all of it.
