Your Ministry Is Dying And You Don’t Know Why

Published on June 10, 2026

You’re still showing up. Still serving. Still pouring out. But something feels off — and if you’re being honest, the joy isn’t what it used to be. According to DJ Geech, director of Flavor Fest and founder of Coatesville Kids to College, that feeling isn’t just burnout. It’s a warning.

In his conversation with Slim Sizzle on WhatItIzWhatItBeezLike?!, Geech got transparent about what quietly kills ministries from the inside — and it starts with leaders who never stop to heal.

You’re Pouring From a Cracked Vessel

Geech described it plainly: “We keep pouring out… but you’re pouring out of reserves now. That’s why ministry started getting hard. I wasn’t enjoying it anymore.” When leaders skip the healing process and keep performing, they’re not operating from overflow — they’re bleeding out in public. The people around them feel it, even if no one says anything.

You Don’t Have Accountability

One of the non-negotiables Geech put in place for Flavor Fest artists is a letter of recommendation from their pastor. Not because of clout — because of accountability. “We don’t want homeless artists,” he said. Leaders without covering are a liability — to themselves and to the people they’re leading.

You’re Mistaking Activity for Ministry

Geech was running block parties, planting churches, discipling students, and teaching at a Bible institute — all at the same time. From the outside, everything looked like ministry. On the inside, he was hiding in his office, short with his kids, and disconnected from the joy that started it all. Busy is not the same as fruitful. And motion is not the same as mission.

The Fix Isn’t a Conference. It’s Honesty.

Geech didn’t need a new strategy. He needed to stop, sit down, and let God address what was actually broken. “You gotta heal,” he said. “You gotta let the Lord speak. You gotta be filled back up.” The ministry didn’t need more from him. It needed the real him — restored, accountable, and operating from a place of genuine surrender.

If any of this sounds familiar, this episode is for you.
