The Real Reason Men Won’t Ask For Help | Eric Stephens

At 11 years old, Eric Stephens fell hard on a basketball court and heard his father say, “You won’t be like me.” Rejection took root. He decided that if he couldn’t be accepted, he’d become “the villain”: drinking, partying, and trying to be anyone but who God created him to be.

On this episode of WhatItIzWhatItBeezLike?!, Eric tells King Cyz how God used his grandmother’s death to bring him to life. He prayed for a sign, a passing train blew its horn three times, and three days later she was gone.

Today, Eric leads Redwood Christian Ministries, hosts the Rooted in Christ podcast, and brings Christian hip hop to Cleveland’s House of Blues every November. He’s also not ashamed to say he sees a Christian counselor. Too many men are “leading while bleeding,” carrying pain alone because of pride. “I’m stepping on God’s toes,” he says. “I need to be relying on Him, not my own strength.”

He also redefines leadership. It isn’t power or a title. It’s washing feet. “The more people who follow me, those are more people I serve.”

Your homework: Men, name one burden you’ve been carrying alone. Then call one trusted brother, pastor, or counselor and talk about it this week.
