Wande drops new visuals for her single Winning

It’s The Wande Show

First of all, opening it up as a talk show was clever, but then the Reach Records first lady took it to a whole other level.  The Real Women of The Old Testament.  Brilliant.  It speaks directly to the times.

You’ve got to understand the cultural shift as a result of the impact of Love and Hip Hop and the Real Housewives franchises to truly appreciate the concept beyond just the visuals.  It’s more than just art!  Wande is introducing biblical precepts in a way the young folk can comprehend.

Understanding the parable of The Real Women of The Old Testament

Now let’s get to the real discussion.  There has been some talk in the CHH space about art vs ministry.  That’s why I chose to do this article.  It wasn’t the first time I saw the visuals.  It was genius then.  But this time, when it came across my timeline, it hit differently in light of the recent conversations surrounding the state of CHH.

I think we can all agree that the video is a great piece of art.  But to stop there is to deny the power of God’s word.  It’s saying to a generation, that unless you are trained in seminary school, you are not able to witness.  Yes, witness.  The apostles were witnesses.  Not bishops.  Not preachers.  They ministered but were not ministers.  They were witnesses.

They experienced Jesus firsthand and were tasked with spreading the gospel by witnessing.  We mistake that for preaching.  And to further complicate things, we err when we interchange teaching and preaching. Why is this important?

Because even though both preaching and teaching communicate biblical and theological truth, their delivery and goals are different. Don’t take my word on it.  Google it.

Why does this matter?  Because preaching contains an element of influence.  And if we keep it a buck, it can become intoxicating leaving us vulnerable to the enemy’s attack.  Power is a helluva drug!

Teaching, however, is just showing and telling another how to do something.  How to get to know God.  How to break a stronghold.  And that’s what Wande is doing through Winning.  She’s teaching young women to value their worth, abstain, and wait for marriage with a man who lives for God.

And for a teenage girl in the throws of hormones and puberty, under attack and overstimulated by wordly media; no message could be more important.

Yes, CHH is art.  But for the streets, it’s a tool to provide hope, healing and teach them how to navigate this physical reality.  Well played, baby girl.  Respect.
