Faith & AI: Why Are We Lonely in a Crowd?
Walk into any college cafeteria and you’ll see it: people everywhere, sitting side by side, all on their phones, all alone. “How can you be around people and be lonely?” asks Nana Kofi Minta Addadzi-Koom. “This does not make any sense.”
On this episode of Faith & AI, host Dice Gamble sits down with Nana, a creative technologist who grew up in Ghana, studied in China, and now builds in Chicago. Growing up in Ghana, he took community for granted. Moving to America showed him how rare it had become. He started by posting flyers urging students to put their phones down and talk to each other. When that didn’t work, he built knod, an AI tool that uses the phone in your hand to connect you with the person right next to you.
Nana is honest about the fear many people have of AI. It isn’t going away, he says. It’s already drafting your emails and answering your calls. He compares AI to a child that needs guardrails, wisdom, and responsible people raising it. If we sit back, we give that power to someone else.
As Ecclesiastes 4:9 reminds us, two are better than one.
Your homework: The next time you’re in a room full of people, put your phone away and start one real conversation.
