Jackie Hill Perry renowned Bible teacher and poet released her new book Upon Waking, a devotional last month to rave reviews.

She recently spoke to CBN News to reveal that she doesn’t read devotionals, “My publisher brought up the idea, and I was a bit cynical about it because, even as I said in the introduction, I don’t read devotionals. And so it didn’t seem like it was my cup of tea. But I thought through why I didn’t read them and obviously is because I think a lot of it is shallow. I think a lot of them are self-centered, and they motivate people in a non-scriptural way. But it felt like, well, just write what you wanna see. And so I just took it as a challenge to create a resource, that I think was helpful.” 

Her book has received five stars across several platforms including Lifeway, Amazon and Christianbooks, and it’s a tool Perry hopes will bear a lot of fruit because it’s based on the Scriptures.
