Netflix Confirms “Good Times” Animated Series to Premiere April 2024
The series, based off the 70’s hit show of the same name will premiere this April on Netflix. Among the producers are Norman Lear who produced the original series, Seth McFarland Family Guy executive producer and NBA all-star Steph Curry. Lear has expressed in interviews that he’s excited to carry on the legacy of Good Times.
It does have some heavy hitters on the cast including Jay Pharoah of Saturday Night Live, Yvette Nicole Brown, JB Smoove of The Real Husbands of Hollywood & Curb Your Enthusiasm, Gerald Anthony ‘Slink’ Johnson AKA Black Jesus (from Comedy Central), and Blackish star Marsai Martin.
The Original Good Times
If you’re familiar the original, you know that lead actors John Amos and Ester Rolle fought for proper representation of the black family at a time when America was just coming out of the civil rights era and Hollywood was ripe with stereotypes. And Rolles character was a woman of faith. It’ll be interesting to see the direction this reimagined Good Times goes.
Season 1 drops April 12. Will you be watching family? If so, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the show.
