Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul, The Most Anticipated Boxing Match of 2024
Published on March 23, 2024
Iron Mike Tyson is stepping back into the ring this year with an opponent that is 30 years his junior. YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul, 27, has a 9 – 1 record and boast 6 knockouts. His one defeat was actually a split decision loss to Tommy Fury. Tyson, who will be 58 when boxing match goes down has a record of 50 – 6 and boasts a stunning 44 knockouts.
No doubt Tyson is in great shape as we’ve seen on his social media. And of course, Paul is in his prime. This is what makes it an interesting matchup. Iron Mike was unstoppable in his prime and has the experience while Paul has time on his side. Tyson’s round 1 knockouts are legendary. I have to admit, I’m curious to see how this plays out.
Could Mike Tyson’s Health Be At Risk?
Unfortunately, I’m also concerned. Thinking about his age and the risk of a traumatic brain injury, I can help but wonder how the fight could impact his health. Yes, he appears to be in good shape. And I don’t know how many people actually landed real head shots to Iron Mike back in the day. I do know of at least one. James Buster Douglas.
That’s when the initial excitement of seeing Iron Mike back in the ring evaporated and I was left with a feeling of trepidation. We’ve learned a lot over recent years about traumatic brain injuries. From concussions to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), athletes in contact sports like boxing, football and MMA are at risk of getting a traumatic brain injury.
The U.S. National Library of Medicine reports that “approximately 20% of professional boxers develop a chronic traumatic brain injury (CTBI) during their careers, and up to 40% of retired professional boxers were diagnosed with symptoms of chronic brain injury (CBI). Arguably, boxing’s most famous practitioner, Muhammad Ali, is the most prominent example of an individual with a boxing-related neurological injury. Ali was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disorder, Parkinson disease (PD) in 1984, which later contributed to his death in 2016.”
Not only am I concerned about Mike Tyson, but I’m also concerned about all of the athletes that are at risk, including Paul. Will you join me in praying for both Tyson, Paul and athletes all over the world. For their healing and for their families to be comforted and covered in those seasons of health crisis.
The fight will air on Netflix July 20th. Will you be watching family? Will you be praying?
