The 116 Life Ep. 122: The Answer Is In The Bible

On this episode of The 116 Life, hosts Ace Harris and Meah Evans take listeners into one of their most honest, layered conversations yet—an exploration of what it truly means to practice faith in a world that constantly pulls us in different directions. What begins as lighthearted conversation about changing seasons quickly unfolds into a vulnerable, much-needed dialogue about influence, scripture, spiritual formation, community, and choosing joy even when life hits hard.

Influence Matters More Than We Think

Ace opens up about something he’s been processing lately: the weight of stewardship. After attending Holy Smoke Fest and hearing how much this show has impacted listeners, he was reminded that people aren’t just watching Christian culture—they’re watching Christian leaders. “The messengers matter,” he says, not because they replace the gospel, but because the way they live the message influences how others see the faith.

Meah agrees, pointing to Acts 17 and the Bereans who eagerly listened to Paul yet cross-checked every word by Scripture. It’s a healthy model for believers today: appreciate the messenger, but measure everything by the Word.

The “How” People Keep Asking For

A huge chunk of the episode centers on a question Ace and Meah receive from young believers all the time:

“But how do I actually follow Jesus day-to-day?”

And their answer is refreshingly real.

People often want hacks, shortcuts, or “dopamine-level spirituality”—but as Ace emphasizes, Christian formation doesn’t work like that. It’s steady. Quiet. Unflashy. “It’s simple and still,” he says. The fruit takes time, just like anything worth growing.

Meah adds practical wisdom here, offering a glimpse into her own rhythm: waking up early, sitting with Scripture, rereading chapters, processing them slowly, and asking God to make His truth stick. Not performative faith. Not perfection. Devotion.

She challenges believers—especially younger ones—not to treat the Bible like a backup plan. “I don’t even know how I used to live without reading my Bible,” she admits. Once she made it a daily priority, everything shifted: her peace, her stewardship, her relationships, her emotional health. “We’re walking blind when we don’t open the Word.”

Why You Can’t Do This Walk Alone

Another major theme is community. Ace pushes back against the popular idea that all you need is “your own personal relationship with God.” Yes, that matters—but isolation is dangerous. Community is where healing, accountability, clarity, and rescue happen. It’s where someone can look you in the eyes and pull you out of depression, deception, or destructive thought patterns.

Meah builds on this with encouragement: community also helps you understand Scripture, see fresh perspectives, and gain the wisdom you miss when you read alone. God designed transformation to happen in relationships.

Choosing Joy in Real-Life Pain

The final segment of the episode gets deeply personal. Ace opens up about losing four close family members in three years, navigating his son’s recent medical scare, and walking with friends through grief, divorce, and deconstruction. Yet he still chooses joy—not the surface-level kind, but an anchored joy that suffering can’t shake.

“My joy isn’t circumstantial,” he says. “It’s eternal.”

Meah connects this to the emotional honesty found in Psalms—where David cried out in pain, yet always found his way back to truth. Joy and sorrow can coexist. Faith doesn’t cancel struggle. But devotion keeps us moving.
