YB – The Greatest
“The Greatest” is a stirring commentary on the social unrest and injustices that have marked this summer as one to rage against. YB knows that oppression breeds opportunity — unjust, unfair, wicked as oppression is, YB urges listeners to grieve then pummel through the pain towards justice.
His smooth vocals spit quick verses of spiritually-guided sentiment (“I know He got us / Tears in my eyes when I see my life / If I’m being honest, I barely sleep at night / On the front line when I know it’s right / I pray they see the light”), dotted atop a base of powerful drum pad slaps, deep bass blooms, and trap beats. In the music video for “The Greatest,” YB delivers an impassioned performance interspersed with footage of Black Lives Matter protests across the country. YB rises in “The Greatest” —he’s hungry for change and he’s brave enough to beg for the light.
