Dee Black talks being Consistent in the Faith!
Published on August 28, 2025
In the latest episode of King Legend Talks, host King Legend 757 sits down with Christian rapper, minister, and mentor Dee Black for a powerful and transparent conversation. Far more than just a story about beats and bars, this interview traces Dee Black’s journey from the streets of Baltimore to discipleship, ministry, and a music career built on integrity and surrender to God.
From the Streets to Surrender
Dee Black shared candidly about his early years in Baltimore, where he was deeply immersed in the street life while watching his friends break into the rap scene. Eventually, he found himself pursuing music, even landing a record deal. But when his then-girlfriend (now wife) encouraged him to speak with her pastor, everything shifted. Instead of focusing on fame or money, that pastor asked Dee a simple question: “What about your soul?”
That moment unraveled everything. Not only did the pastor expose flaws in his contract that even lawyers missed, but he also pointed Dee toward a deeper truth. Convicted, Dee turned his life over to Christ, leaving music behind for nearly eight years while he became rooted in church, ministered to young people, and began building a foundation of faith.
The Season of Foundation
Those eight years away from the microphone weren’t wasted—they were crucial. Dee explained that time allowed him to be discipled, to learn how to serve, and to grow spiritually before stepping back into music. It was a season where he resisted temptation by immersing himself in church life, even sleeping at the building at times to avoid slipping back into old habits.
“Some people say it doesn’t take all that,” Dee said, “but for me, it did.” That season shaped his perspective and gave him the spiritual grounding to re-enter music later with integrity and purpose.
Marriage, Leadership, and the Home
As the conversation shifted, Dee offered heartfelt advice on being a spiritual covering for the home. He emphasized the importance of leading by example rather than words. For him, consistency in walking with God is the greatest testimony a husband and father can give.
“Don’t front. Don’t play games. Be honest and be real,” he advised. “If you don’t have a real relationship with God, your family will know it.” For Dee, his household has witnessed his prayers, sacrifices, and service—and that has created an environment of respect and trust.
Discernment in a Digital Age
Another central theme was discernment, especially in today’s media-saturated world. Dee and King Legend discussed the dangers of New Age teachings and subtle spiritual deception in entertainment and children’s programming. Dee warned that not every message that sounds positive is biblical, pointing to practices and language such as “enlightenment” or “Christ consciousness” as red flags.
He urged parents to be vigilant about what their children consume and to lean on the Holy Spirit for discernment. “The devil doesn’t always come the way you expect,” he said. “He comes as an angel of light, sneaky and deceptive”.
Dividing Lines: Music With a Mission
The interview also highlighted Dee’s recent collaborative album Dividing Lines, a project designed to bridge denominational and theological differences in the Christian community. Featuring artists from various backgrounds—Baptist, Pentecostal, Calvinist, and more—the album demonstrates that unity in Christ is greater than division.
For Dee, working on the project was humbling. He admitted realizing his own judgmental tendencies during the process, which God used to teach him about grace. “We all think we’re right,” he reflected, “but I wasn’t giving the same grace I wanted others to give me”.
Called to Discipleship and Integrity
Today, Dee Black’s mission goes far beyond music. Through his nonprofit Real Outreach (Reach Everyone in Love), he and his wife serve youth and young adults, discipling them and providing mentorship. He also works with the juvenile justice system, investing directly in young lives.
When asked what he wants to be remembered for, Dee’s answer was clear: integrity. “A good name matters,” he said. “When you don’t see me, I’m still living this. Integrity covers everything.”
Final Reflections
This episode of King Legend Talks is more than just an artist interview—it’s a testimony of transformation, surrender, and consistent faith. Dee Black’s story reminds listeners that true success isn’t measured by deals or streams but by walking in obedience to God’s call.
Whether in ministry, music, or marriage, his message was simple yet profound: submit fully to God, live authentically, and let your life be defined by integrity.
